Reiki (Usui Shiki Ryoho)
Gentle healing energy for the mind, body and soul
Reiki is an energy technique which can be used to treat the whole person, mind, body, emotions, and spirit. The energy flows effortlessly throughout the body, targeting areas of imbalance and can be delivered with the hands on or off the body or via distant services. It is a natural and safe method of healing now used throughout the world, and was re-introduced to the modern world in the late 1800's by Dr Mikao Usui, a highly educated and well travelled Japanese Buddhist.
If you are feeling stressed and would like to chill out, just want some nurturing or desire to feed your soul, come and enjoy the gentle music, aromatherapy scents and softly lit room where you are encouraged to close your eyes and to fully relax and allow thoughts to leave your mind.
You can choose to receive the healing session using a hands-on the body, a light touch on your head and face, torso and legs, or off-the-body with the healing work being conducted in the energy field around your body. If you have pain or discomfort in your back, it may be beneficial to roll onto the front of your body, otherwise the whole session can be conducted lying on your back.
During the session you may experience feelings of warmth and tingling, a sense of calm and peacefulness, whole body relaxation, see colours, vivid dream-like visions, or you may just fall asleep as many of my clients do!
Reiki may also improve immunity by activating the body's own natural healing processes, as well as enhancing coping abilities and maintaining general health and well-being.
Reiki has more recently undergone evidence-based research in a number of universities and hospital environments. They found that regular Reiki provides positive physical, mental and emotional benefits including slowing heart rate, reducing respiration rate, lowering blood pressure and controlling pain post-operatively and in those with chronic conditions. Psychological improvements included the significant reduction in anxiety and depression.
Major hospitals in several countries are now using Reiki therapy in conjunction with mainstream medicine to alleviate side effects of treatment such as pain, nausea, and mental and emotional stress, as well as improving patient recovery times.
